A container train with Vienna departed from the Darsena Toscana Terminal in Livorno
The Terminal Darsena Toscana of the port of Livorno has just started an experimental train stopover which from the Tuscan docks is bound for Vienna, Austria. For the moment, according to what the managing director of the terminal Marco Mignogna explained to SHIPPING ITALY, it was a first ‘spot’ block train but it is in all respects what we hope will represent the beginning of a new era. for the rail transport of containers between Tuscany and Central Europe.
The announcement came from Hupac, which has already defined it as a “new success story of maritime intermodality” specifying that the train, which from the Livorno Tdt terminal will pass through the Rubiera and Piacenza airports thanks to the collaboration with Logtainer, will then arrive allinland terminal WienCont in Vienna.
These are the words used by Terminal Darsena Toscana to celebrate this important novelty: “The first train that will connect Tdt to the international network has started, operated by Hupac and Logtainer with destination Vienna. A new and unprecedented scenario opens up, Livorno and DTT on the European map ”.
Mignogna talks about “a project that has been going on for a long time” and adds that, after this first experimentation, “the ambition is to have regular railway tracks to broaden the range of commercial influence of the terminal at European”. In practice, Logtainer will deal with selling above all while the national routes between Livorno and the Po Valley (Rubiera and Piacenza) together with Hupac will try to find the volumes of goods necessary to compile the convoys for relaunches to Austria. Each train has a maximum capacity of about fifty containers.
