V4 ministerial summit: Warsaw also perceives the double standard of the Union
According to Budapest – Grzegorz Puda, head of the ministry, important initiatives can emerge from the Hungarian-Polish cooperation.
The Polish government is perceiving a double standard within the EU and refusing to exert political pressure, Poland’s head of ministry in charge of development funds and regional policy said later in Budapest during a ministerial meeting in the Visegrad countries.
According to Puda Grzegorz, decisions in Brussels are often determined by political interests, even if such considerations are out of place. Some people may not even take a good look at the pace at which Hungary and Poland are developing, so they portray the two states in a false light in front of Western public opinion, he added.
It is rumored that the economies of both countries performed remarkably well in 2021. Hungarians may not even notice this, but as a foreign guest, the development of recent years is spectacular. As an outsider, it is also clear that the Hungarian government represents the interests of the people living here and recognizes the common challenges, he said.
According to the minister, experience in both countries shows that progress can only be expected from right-wing governments. The left never serves the good of the nations, and the eastern half of the continent still remembers that in communist times it broke away from the western half of the continent, he stressed. The post-communist governments did not bring a boom either, in Poland the industry was downsized, the big companies sold it to foreigners, they distributed everything they could. All this needs to be made up for now, but the signs of development are still spectacular in Poland today, Grzegorz Puda added.
According to the head of the ministry, important initiatives can emerge from the Hungarian-Polish cooperation. It is a particularly important task today for the two countries to represent values within the community that their leadership does not dare to stand up for – emphatically.
