UEFA representatives in Prague: meeting with FACR chief Fousek and visit to Sparta
The delegation of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), led by its chairman Aleksander Čeferin, met with the head of the Football Association of the Czech Republic Petr Fousek in Prague on Thursday. Together, they also attended the evening match of the introductory round of the elimination phase of the Conference League between Prague’s Sparta and Partizan Belgrade (0: 1). The FACR informed about it on its website.
Ceferin in the role of UEFA chief has already visited the Czechia in March 2017, but met with the new FACR leadership for the first time. Fousek invited a Slovenian official last October. Čeferina in Prague is accompanied by his adviser Zvonimir Boban, director of national associations Zoran Lakovič, football adviser Luis Figo and head of protocol Fransesco Campagne.
“There are a lot of topics that unite us. This is not only a general effort to support competitions across the football pyramid of all associations, but also specific issues such as the current debate over FIFA’s World Cup every two years or a dispute between UEFA and the European Super League initiative, “said Fousek.
“We presented the development of our candidacy for the finals of the European Conference League in 2023 and also the effort of the FACR to organize a UEFA congress in Prague in time. But we are also working with UEFA on a number of other innovations that we would like to use in our forthcoming Action Plan. The long-term goal is for the representation of the FACR in UEFA projects and commissions to be as wide and strong as possible, “added the FACR chairman.
According to Čeferin, domestic football is in good condition, although it sees room for improvement. “Czech football is very successful and the local association does an excellent job. But we can work to have (with UEFA) an even better infrastructure and training center. Your national teams deserve something like that, “said Čeferin, who saw his match at Letná with his colleagues and flew from Prague on Friday morning.
