Rada hl. At Monday’s meeting, the City of Prague approved a subsidy for a successful applicant in the field of culture and art. A total of 709 applications were submitted this year, and a total of 494 cultural actors or projects will be reported. One-year projects for 2023 will eventually receive support in the amount of almost 141 million crowns. 34 applicants for two- to four-year subsidies over 500,000 crowns also succeeded, which will be gradually released in the years 2023 to 2026. Applications for subsidies exceeding the beginning of 200,000 crowns will be approved at the February meeting of the City Council. m of Prague.
“After culture has been so hard hit in the past two years, we are trying our best to support cultural actors in the city. Compared to the previous year, when the city had to cut in all areas, this year the amount earmarked for culture is again slightly higher, “says Hanařeštíková, Councilor for Culture and Tourism.
Distribution of funds to applicants from financial and artistic organizations and the proposed cultural initiative by a fifteen-member expert commission with the help of 65 external evaluators, based on a two-round evaluation using five criteria. Each application was first assessed individually by five evaluators, those over one million crowns were also subjected to an economic assessment.
A total of 709 applications were submitted, 10 of which came through the new function of the Prague Portal. 667 of them were submitted for factual evaluation.
This year, for the first time, subsidies were distributed according to a new system of so-called measures. Applicants always had to choose one of seven categories. The greatest interest was in one-year subsidies to support culture and art (studies, presentations) with a higher contribution of up to 500,000, where 369 submitted applications were received. In the end, the expert commission selected 253 applications, for a total of 32 million crowns.
Applicants could also apply for two- to four-year grants of over 500,000 crowns. A total of 49 applications were submitted, of which 34 were also supported, in the total amount of 295 million crowns. However, this amount will be gradually released between 2023 and 2026.
For the first time this year, a thematic call was announced exclusively for projects related to the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union or artistically responding to the covid-19 pandemic. Another measure is aimed at spectators’ favorite scenes who have not yet applied for grants.
The required amount for this year’s one-year subsidies exceeded 478 million crowns, the projects eventually received support in the amount of almost 141 million crowns. The total support, including the tied volume of 227.2 million crowns from previous years, is thus more than 368 million crowns.
“The grant procedure was not entirely easy this year either. The commission was half-staffed, and major changes took place in the support program. The subsidy software also had to be modified. It is always my ambition to reach an agreement across the sectoral groups, which was achieved this year after a long discussion. This consensus and the votes of the opposition will also be unanimously implemented by the Committee for Culture of the Prague City Council, and I believe that this will also be the case at the City Council, “adds Martin Benda, Chairman of the City Council. m of Prague for granting subsidies in the field of culture and art.
The subsidies were distributed in a total of 7 field areas. The largest share, 28 percent, eventually went to the theater, 10 percent less was won by applicants in the field of music, dance and fine arts divided by 12 percent, film by 8 percent, literature by 3 percent less and other unclassified projects the remaining 17 percent of the funds taught for cultural subsidies.
One of the novelties is also the sanction agreement in the grant agreement, when the City of Prague m of Prague can up to 2 percent of the granted subsidy if the buyer use illegal forms of advertising. This is another step in the city’s efforts to visually cultivate public space.
On Monday, projects with support of up to CZK 200,000 were approved by Prague councilors. The February council will decide on the sponsorship of projects and actors over 200,000.
