From year to year, lifeguards at sea intervene more and more. This is what the 2021 report reports. During this, the rescue operations were carried out 468 outputs in the harbor of Marseilles, mainly between June and September.
More than half of these outings are rescue operations, “10% more than in 2020”, details the press release.
The opportunity to alert the people of Marseille to the main causes of these incidents: the lack of preparation for boarding and the inexperience of sea users (swimmers, yachtsmen, water sports enthusiasts, etc.).
More than a hundred interventions at sea
In a few figures, 278 people were rescued in 2021 (+25%) and the emergency services carried out 232 interventions for assistance, rescue and medical transport, including 148 interventions at sea.
“148 rescues is still too many! Too much recklessness and irresponsibility at sea! », reacts Jo ManicacciPresident of the SNSM (National Sea Rescue Society) of Marseille.
And before the arrival of fine weather, the SNSM recalls the advice of caution and appeals to the responsibility of users at sea. To do this, the lifeguards offer, at the request of nautical companies, safety conferences. Boaters who request it can also request help for a safety visit to their boats by seeing an email at the following address: [email protected].
At sea, but also in the creeks
But the emergency services also report an increase in interventions on dry land following discomfort in the creeks and on the Frioul islands, for example. Here too, many people underestimate the difficulty of sports practices, including walking on the trail, reports the report.
Some areas are not easy to access for rescue. This is the case of “Sugiton in particular, and in Frioul” specifies the press release.
