Reconstruction begins on Rašínovo nábřeží, cars will run across the embankment
The tram line on Rašínovo nábřeží between Palackého náměstí and Výtoní was last reconstructed in 1979, almost 43 years ago.
This will extend the journey for public transport passengers and drivers for a month and a half, from 15 February to 1 April. However, for cars heading to Výtoň, the detour route is simplified in the first three weeks.
In the section marked with red signs, they will drive in the direction from the center across the Novoměstská náplavka

The detour will lead in the direction of Výtoň across the embankment. The drivers get off at the embankment at Palackého náměstí at the mouth of Dřevná Street and get off at the limnigraph on Výtoň. They will be able to use it from February 15 to March 8. The route will be 200 meters long and will take up one lane in width.
Cars will have to slow down on the embankment to a maximum speed of 30 km / h, the radar monitors. Pedestrians are separated from cars by concrete barriers.
Due to passing cars, the area on the embankment is narrowed to 10 to 15 meters. The stairs leading from Rašín embankment will also be closed.
“The current line is at the end of its service life, it cannot be repaired indefinitely, the DPP has to renovate it this year,” said Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor for Transport.
The city will also expand the platform of the Palackého náměstí and Výtoň stops, which would increase the comfort and safety of passengers. “We will equip the stops with new furniture, build new railings on them, and then leave most of the space on the embankment for pedestrians and cyclists,” added Scheinherr.
The traditional farmers’ markets on the embankment will remain even during the repairs, as soon as they will be moved further towards the railway bridge.
Cars in the direction of Palackého náměstí and, from March 9, drivers in the other direction, a detour route is waiting across the surrounding street. Traffic signs will lead them through Libušina, Vratislavova, Vyšehradská, Plavecká, Pod Slovany, Trojická, Podskalská, Dřevná and back to Rašínovo nábřeží.
Already last summer, the city repaired the section from Výtoň to the Podolská waterworks and under the Vyšehrad tunnel.
“Reconstruction of Rašín embankment is also related to the construction of a new tram line Modřany – Libuš, as I need to run continuously and reliably from Palackého náměstí via Podolí, Braník, Modřany to Libuše,” explained Jan Šurovský, member of the board and technical director of DPP – povrch.
As part of repairs, the existing track installation will replace the modern track with anti-vibration mats and anti-noise measures. It will be quieter in terms of knowledge, which will be appreciated by the inhabitants of the adjacent houses.
The reconstruction of the 570-meter-long tram section will cost a total of 50 million crowns.
