PRAGUE

Carnival celebrations in the capital are unlikely to thwart the pandemic this year

Sugar Mizzy February 13, 2022

“City Hall budget for the carnival. On February 26, there will be thematic carnival markets in Jiřák until 6 pm. Prague 3 has also prepared a special edition of beer designed by Pavel Fuksa, “said Zuzana Křížková, a spokeswoman for Prague 3. The Žižkov carnival is one of the most visited and oldest modern celebrations of the end of winter and the beginning of Easter Lent in the metropolis.

Prague 1 has already “sent” an invitation to the Malostranské Carnival Festival. The date of the event is Saturday, February 26, when the 8th Letna Carnival is produced, which also includes a program at the National Technical Museum and the National Agricultural Museum. “Look forward to the band Furiant and the theater association TY-já-tr. Of course there are tours of the expositions in our museum. On the 3rd floor, you can visit an exhibition with the slaughterhouse’s attractions: The Butcher and the Cross, a demonstration of historical butcher’s tools from the collections and the short film The Killer through the Eyes of Photographer Jindřich Štreit, “he says. web National Agricultural Museum.

On the same day, a number of other carnival festivals will compete in Prague – for example, Jihoměstský in KC Zahrada or Karlínský on Karlínské náměstí.

In some parts of Prague, the main part of the carnival festivities will take place in a week. The association for the happier Střížkov invites you to the 19th annual Old Bohemian Carnival of Střížkov in Václavka Park. On the same day in the afternoon, you can go to the carnival to Ďáblice, Kbel (central park) or Suchdol. The meeting is at 1 pm on Suchdolské náměstí. “Then at M. Alš’s primary school, Brandejs’s farm and a feast in the Starosuchdolská restaurant. We are looking forward to beautiful masquerades, “inform the organizers. In nearby Roztoky, on the other hand, they do not expect a large parade for the public. “Please do not contact them with the offer of bands or stall sales,” the organizers have announced very popular events in recent years.

“Then at M. Alš’s primary school, Brandejs’s farm and a feast in the Starosuchdolská restaurant. We are looking forward to beautiful masquerades, “inform the organizers.

In nearby Roztoky, on the other hand, they do not expect a large parade for the public.

On Sunday, February 20, the Museum of the Capital City chose Ctěnice for carnival celebrations in the Ctěnice wine-growing area. “Visitors to traditional carnival feasts can look forward to a real Czech carnage, a carnival parade with live music and merriment,” says the invitation. Admission to the outdoor event is free, detailed program on web.

After the completion of line O, the Prague metro will measure 114 km and have 101 stations.

Prague will start preparing the fifth metro line, line O is to connect the outskirts of the city

An unusually “late” date for this year’s masquerade procession and subsequent ball were set in Břevnov. The masquerade procession is introduced there on the first of March (from 4 pm), the masquerade ball in the Congress Hall of the Pyramida Hotel even on March 5 (from 7 pm). The masquerade procession starts from the Můj Kredenc store and will go towards the Břevnov monastery, where refreshments will be prepared for the participants.

The renowned photography association 400 ASA opened this week’s exhibition of photographs by Jan Mihalička “Masopusty”. Mihaliček exhibits a selection of photographs related to the theme of folk celebrations. The films were taken in five different places over the last five years, including the popular carnival in Roztoky near Prague. Mihaliček tries to capture the flashes of a magician or mystery that are still present in this “carnival”. “Although it is a very colorful spectacle, black-and-white photographs may return to the past meanings of this festive period due to their monochrome,” the author of the photographs himself. Their exhibition will run at the 400 ASA Gallery (Kováků 32, Prague – Smíchov) until April 8.
