In Debrecen, inside and outside the walls of the Vojtina Puppet Theater, a series of carnival festivities await visitors and residents of the city for two weeks. It opens on Sunday, February 14th, and closes on Sunday the 27th, with days of masquerade, winter funeral, rattlesnake-making noises, mock wedding jokes, and the customs of King Cibere and Conc.
In the playhouse, from February 14 to 18, those who want to laugh will be invited to the chamber hall with jokes by those who form the title “Dance fits the carnival, every rag hangs from it”. The masquerade will start in the theater from February 23 to 25 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Art and the dancers of the Rotating Dance Ensemble and the dwarfs of the Vojtina Company – make a fuss.
Urban Masquerade and Mangalica Festival in Kossuth Square
On Friday, February 25, the series of entertainments will continue outdoors in Kossuth Square, in the city Masquerade, where, in addition to the combined music of the Judge Orchestra and the Suggestive Orchestra, there will also be a dance theater. On Saturday, February 26, from 4.30 pm, the winter-chasing peoples from Kossuth Square will witness the last battle of King Conc and Cibere Vajda – the lords of abundance and fasting – at the end of which the Winter lordship will be set on fire with all the hustle and bustle and disease.
From February 25-27, in addition to the Masquerade, the food and music of the Mangalica Festival will fill the Kossuth Square again. The insoles are pulled by the Garagulya, the Stilt Company, the Bürkös Band, the Clay Band and the Flaska Band.
The two-week carnival bustle closes on Sunday, February 27, from 10 a.m., not least: Debrecen is taking a worthy farewell from the cold, frosty winter with an unusual, interactive family day and greeting spring. This Sunday, not only will the puppeteers be in costumes, but all visitors – children and adults alike – will be welcomed in masquerades, and the best-dressed will be rewarded. Anyone who doesn’t get dressed can make a mask for themselves at the craft programs.
According to the current epidemiological regulations, the use of a mask covering the nose and mouth is obligatory for those over 6 years of age, and the participation of those over 18 years of age is subject to a protection certificate for certain programs. Detailed information and ticket prices can be found on the Visit Debrecen website.
