The Russian Orthodox Church names the conditions for refusing to baptize a child Russian news EN
The head of the Department of Early Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk (Alfeev), called the need for a child to be baptized. He spoke about this on the air of the Church and the World program on the Russia 24 TV channel. Recording available at YouTube.
The metropolitan said that if parents oppose education in the Orthodox faith, then he should not be baptized. “Baptism is not some magical act. It is never easy to baptize, for example, so that he does not get sick, or for some other child. The child is baptized in order to be brought up in the Orthodox faith, ”explains the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church.
According to him, if another relative is brought up in the Orthodox faith, then this person can agree on the baptism of the child with the priest. At the same time, Metropolitan Hilarion warned that this might look like a conflict with the parents, and in this regard, the child should carefully consider everything.
Earlier, the head of the DECR criticized the American streaming service Netflix for gay propaganda in films and series intended for young people. According to Metropolitan Hilarion, any measures aimed at keeping children away from such research are welcome.
