The former Cologne hockey player carried the Czech flag at the start of the Winter Olympics
A total of ninety athletes took part in the voting. “Which is a percentage more than usual. So to put it bluntly, the flag bearers have a pretty strong mandate,” the Doctor added.
Nerves from the tests. I’d rather be in Beijing, says Portyk
Březina, 31, is one of the most experienced athletes in the Czech team, preparing for her fourth Olympic start. Mills of the same age helped the women’s hockey team to the first-ever participation under five circles.
“I think it’s a very well-chosen pair and they will represent us with dignity,” the Doctor said. I expect that especially athletes will be accommodated in the Beijing Olympic Village. “Traveling from the mountains is quite complicated. There should be about fifty athletes,” added the head of the Czech team.
Březin doesn’t get it yet
Mills admitted she was surprised by the athletes’ decision. “I’m shocked, I haven’t been able to absorb it yet. It’s a great honor and maybe that’s why we’re shocked. It’s a pleasure to be able to represent the Czech Republic even more than just in sports,” said Mills.
I also trust Březina with great honor. “I don’t have it all in my head yet and I think we’ll both get it when we go with the flag and declare our country,” Březina said.
The Brno figure skater, who lives with his wife in the USA, is an experienced Olympic “fighter”. He knows what awaits him. “I heard that some flags were quite heavy at previous Olympics, so we’ll see. If we take turns,” Březina smiled.
A historic moment. The hockey players are waiting for the Olympic premiere, dreaming of a medal
“There are two of us out there, we’ll fight it together,” added Mills, who also lives abroad. “I have been living abroad since I was fifteen, so for me the flag is a connection to home. A return to my country. It is an opportunity to represent the whole Czech Republic, not only athletes, but also women, men, children, it is a real honor,” she added.
Two athletes – a man and a woman – carried the Czech flag at the opening of the Olympic Games for the first time in the summer in Tokyo, where tennis player Petra Kvitová and basketball player Tomáš Satoranský shared this experience.
