Drugs, noise and clutter. Residents of social flats are doing badly in the Brno house Company News Brněnská Drbna
Levered doors, a washing machine in the middle of the corridor and an improvised bed lying on a support for a random night visit. With the arrival of social flats, the apartment building in Brno has become a place where residents make visits only in the most urgent cases.
In front of the entrance to the six-storey house Tržní 2 there are crowded garbage cans, there are missing or illegible names on the bells and no keys are needed to enter the building. The front door is constantly broken, as is its glass panel. “The last glass lasted fourteen days before a cobweb appeared on it,” explains the lady Anna, a tenant of one of the municipal flats who moved to Brno’s Černovice eight years ago.
Right on the ground floor, an old washing machine, which has been standing in front of the elevator for some time and will be approached, will welcome visitors. Instead of taking it to the collection, someone put a portable child seat on the device. Maybe it was the same person who got rid of the broken stove in front of the house entrance. Repairmen and employees of the company, which regularly tie up the mess, move around the house. “It’s terrible here, isn’t it? The worst house in Brno I know, ” drowns one of them.

It turns out that a company employee has lived in the area since childhood and does not remember a similar situation. “We come here to clean the brothel once a week. There’s electronics, drug leftovers, and it’s normal to meet a junkie in the hallway,“It depicts while waiting for a colleague to tie up the furniture from the troubled fifth floor. The tenants in the execution, who had to move with a police escort, left behind wardrobes, carpet, children’s toys and used drapes, which are rolling in the hallway.
Screaming day and night, discarded cellars, domestic violence in the common corridors or seven noisy people in one studio. The inhabitants of the house in Tržní have experienced hell with the tenants of social flats in recent years. According to Anna, one troubled family is enough and dubious existences begin to move into the house. “They are like a box of chocolates. More and more people who behave the same or worse stick to them, ” says the senior as we walk through the floors of the house. She herself had neighbors next to her apartment, the only entertainment being alcohol and drugs.
There are strangers in the corridors of the house.
At night, people are afraid to walk through the common corridors, because they often come across an uninvited visitor who has settled on the lowest floors. Everyone has access to the house, for some the time of day does not matter. “We only want one chance to get a good night’s sleep. But there is definitely no peace at night, “ Anna says that there are times when police officers intervene in the building even once a week.
At the urging of outraged tenants, the people who made the biggest mess in the house were evicted. But now residents rightly fear that the situation with new families will be similar. Due to poor living conditions, they therefore demanded that the Brno City Hall reduce rents. “I think people deserve a lower rent for what we sometimes have to endure here. The proposal passed through the Brno councilors, but the deputies did not approve it, ” explains Anna, according to whom the problems in the house began to escalate about three years ago.

At least two families moved out due to inadaptable tenants, others had to move to a bedroom where the night noise is not so much heard. “We were informed about the problems with Mr. Deputy Jiří Oliva (ČSSD) and we tried to reduce ourselves, but unfortunately it did not work out. We are now preparing measures to secure the house. It is necessary to solve the broken entrance door, we also agree in cooperation with the TOXI team. We dealt with those troubled tenants, “ said Deputy Mayor of Brno about Drbná about the situation Robert Kerndl (ODS).
Market 2 stands still, after 2004 it was shaken by a massive explosion. The gas explosion killed four people, injured several and killed dozens of people overhead. The new building in the street was built four years later, and at first glance it seemed that no one knew that the worst of Brno’s existence was missing inside. However, this is not the only apartment building in Brno that is plagued by problems associated with social housing. A similar situation exists in a nearby house on Zderadova Street, which is also well known to the police.
