Russia ranks first in the world in terms of hospitalizations with Covid-19 | 01.02.22
“Omicron”-strain again brought Russia to the first place in the coronavirus statistics.
Over the past week, 633 thousand people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in the country, of which 85.4 were found in hospitals, following from data operational headquarters.
Over the week, the daily number of cases doubled (125.8 cases on February 1), and hospitalizations increased almost 1.5 times – from 12.8 to 17.5 cases.
In terms of the relative number of hospitalizations – 585.4 cases per million population – Russia has firmly established itself as an international anti-leader, 1.5-2 times ahead of the first “pursuers”, follows from data.
For comparison in the USA: the number of hospitalizations is 383.5 per million population; in Estonia, Spain, France and Denmark it fluctuates around 200-300.
The current Russian figure for the entire duration of the pandemic was exceeded only in two countries, according to available data: in the Czech Republic during the wave of autumn 2020 and early 2021, and in Latvia in the past approximation (more than 600 cases per million).
In terms of absolute consumption of people who ended up in hospitals in less than a week, consumed second behind the US (127.6 cases). However, in the conditions of a constant wave, “omicron” is declining: in two weeks, hospitalizations have decreased by a quarter.
The influx of patients has already thrown into a stupor the health care system in the regions, which, one after another, announce a stop to the provision of routine medical care.
St. Petersburg, the Kaliningrad region, Karelia, the YaNAO, the Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions, as well as Moscow, where the planned hospitalization of extensive children’s hospitals, have been announced for a significant share of such measures.
On January 31, planned assistance was suspended in the Tomsk region and Chuvashia, on February 1 – in Orenburg. On the possible suspension of planned assistance for children announced by the authorities of Primorye.
