Prague – Representatives of the City Hall and the Municipal Company Výstaviště Praha will today hand over the Industrial Palace, which burned down in 2008, to the construction company for reconstruction. second wing and middle tract. Work performed by the consortium Society for the Industrial Palace led by Metrostav. The effort to complete was accompanied by long-term difficulties.
The selected consortium, which, in addition to Metrostav, also includes Avers and Syner, will build a replica of the burnt-out wing, which will, however, be equipped with modern technologies inside. You will use heat pumps with deep wells for heating. The palace will be equipped with air conditioning and so-called shading technology. A new massive basement will be created under the left wing, in which the background for the preparation of exhibitions will be placed.
Efforts to restore the palace have long been accompanied by problems. Among other things, the city sued for insurance money after the wing burned down. The Prague deputies decided in 2018 to announce the contract. However, the current city administration canceled it in October 2019 because it was listed incorrectly. The repair was delayed again.
The palace was built on the occasion of the Jubilee Provincial Exhibition in 1891 according to the design of architect Bedřich Munzberger. From the beginning, it was used to organize exhibitions and other cultural events, although it was originally intended to be a temporary building. Between 1952 and 1954, the communist government decided to change its function and had the main hall of the palace rebuilt into a ballroom. His name was also changed to the Congress Palace, which was part of the then Julius Fučík Park of Culture and Leisure.
