The changes from Aymen Barkok to Mainz and Danny da Costa to Berlin burst. Eintracht Frankfurt continues the season basically unchanged.
Frankfurt – Behind the noble technician Aymen Barkok from Frankfurt there are exciting, possibly also turbulent days far away from home. In preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations, the 23-year-old contracted the corona virus with the Moroccan national team, which the Eintracht professional coped with physically well, but did not protect him from the quarantine. The illness initially cost him his regular place, in the quarter-finals on Sunday Barkok was in the starting line-up for the first time and lasted 104 minutes. It was the final appearance of the tournament, however, as Morocco lost 2-1 in extra time to Egypt with superstar Mo Salah scoring a goal himself and setting up the winner. For Barkok the end of the journey.
Actually, he would have set off for new shores on Tuesday, not far from his home in Frankfurt, only a good half hour away, but it would have been another deep turning point in his life. But the planned winter change from Eintracht to FSV Mainz 05 fell through at the last minute. The midfielder will therefore not open a new chapter in Rheinhessen until the summer.
Aymen Barkok’s move from Eintracht Frankfurt to FSV Mainz has been postponed
Then his contract in Frankfurt expires, and Mainz have already secured the services of the offensive power and equipped them with a contract until 2025. Eintracht Frankfurt loses the footballer trained in his own performance center without any compensation payment, Barkok changes for a free transfer.
Mainz wanted to get the right-footed player right away, everything was settled with Barkok, and Eintracht didn’t seem averse to giving him up early either. This would at least save the salary for five months. On Monday morning it seemed that the contract in Frankfurt was going to be terminated, but then there was no internal consensus at Eintracht on letting the player go immediately on a free transfer. then, of course, displaced the zero-fives. Ultimately, the change burst, it will be postponed to the summer.
Aymen Barkok: Glasner doesn’t think the knot will burst again
It is doubtful whether Barkok will gain a foothold in Frankfurt again in the coming months. However, it is not impossible that he will play a few more games. Eintracht is thin on the offensive. The sports management had informed Barkok weeks ago that his expiring contract would not be extended. Coach Oliver Glasner sees the creative player as a great footballer, fast, persistent, tricky, good in the air, one who has all the qualities of being a regular player in the Bundesliga. But he only quickly develops his skills in training, in the game he rarely uses his skills and then falls off sharply. So far, all coaches are desperate about this.
Glasner no longer believes that the knot will burst again. There are players who just can’t do it – no matter how talented they are. Barkok will try again in Mainz.
Glasner has more hope with Danny da Costa, the 28-year-old will also stay with Eintracht at least until the end of the season. The right-back’s move to Hertha BSC didn’t materialize. That was primarily due to the player himself, who wasn’t really keen on a transfer. (Ingo Durstewitz)
