136 apartments are being built at Gretelriede
Mounds of earth pile up, excavators and tractors protrude in between. Work has begun on a new residential area on the property on the corner of Gretelriede and Innersteweg in the Burg district of Hanover. The Herrenhausen Housing Cooperative (WGH) has 136 apartments built there. There will also be a playground, a park and a day care center on the site.
The district is “definitely an upgrade for the district”, says District Mayor Lukas Alexander Mönkeberg (SPD). “It will bring life back into it.” In Burg, the construction area is a regular topic, explains Mönkeberg. Most recently, there were still discussions in the district council about parking options for cars. There should be fewer parking spaces than apartments because a car is not absolutely necessary due to the proximity to the train station, explains Mönkeberg. The space gained in this way is used for bicycle racks. The WGH stipulates that 82 parking spaces are provided for the 136 apartments.
Start of construction later than announced
The company A&S from Lehrte is currently preparing the construction site by dividing the ground and examining the area for explosive ordnance. Last year, the WGH had the old commercial building on the 17,000 square meter site demolished. This work was completed in September last year, says WGH spokeswoman Lena Petrescu. When the WGH announced their plans in 2018, they indicated 2020 as the start of construction. However, there are no particular reasons for the delay, says Petrescu. It was only not foreseeable in 2018 when the start could take place.
If everything goes according to plan with the preparation of the property, the construction company MBN commissioned by the WGH wants to set up its construction site containers in March. First, MBN would then lay the lines and pour the foundations, explains project manager Alexander Martin. MBN and WGH are aiming for 2024 for completion.
Five buildings are created
Five buildings and a one-story garage are planned. According to the WGH, an L-shaped building with five floors is being built on the west side, also along the railway line. The house on the railway embankment serves as noise protection for the district, explains the mayor. In the building itself, the bathrooms and kitchens are located on the track side, so residents in the other rooms don’t hear as much noise. In addition, the WGH is to be installed with, among other things, soundproof windows and soundproofed ventilation systems.
On the east side of the district, also on Innersteweg, the WGH will have three four-storey buildings erected. The housing cooperative is planning three-storey terraced houses in the middle of the quarter. The apartments should be between 40 and 130 square meters and all have an outdoor area, i.e. a terrace, balcony or loggia. The green space between the houses should be 25 meters long and contain “offers for every age group”.
