Amsterdam Sloterdijk station gets new bicycle shed
In 2025, a new bicycle shed with rental homes will be built at Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. This will be placed between Changiweg and Teleportboulevard. Last week, the mayor and aldermen approved the plans.
The parking facility will consist of two floors and will be located under a building that can accommodate 325 rental homes. The parking facility can eventually be expanded with 2000 additional parking spaces. “It took a while, but we will soon have a really good storage facility,” says Egbert de Vries, chairman of the Transport Region, in a press release. “With the arrival of this bicycle shed, we are taking an important step in making the city sustainable and accessible at low levels, for the entire region”.
The new parking facility is certainly not inconvenient. the station area is equipped with bicycles lying around and the station squares do not have an open character. Earlier in 2017, the current bicycle shed was assessed as bad by the Fietsersbord because of its unfriendly customer service.
The municipality of Amsterdam is developing the new bicycle shed in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, ProRail, NS and the Amsterdam Transport Region. A total of 16 million euros will be contributed by the municipality, the ministry and the Transport Region.
