Obfelden: False police officer arrested when money was handed over
In the early afternoon, a “fake policeman” called a 75-year-old Swiss woman and told her about a gang of thieves where her data had been found. The Swiss German-speaking scammer asked the woman to hand over her cash and valuables to the police for safety.
When the crime property was handed over later in the afternoon, investigators from the Zurich cantonal police were able to arrest a 47-year-old Turk. The Zurich cantonal police are investigating the person who picked him up and the caller. The arrested man must answer to the Limmattal/Albis public prosecutor’s office.
In the fraud variant used, the perpetrator pretends to be a police officer. The phone calls are often made using a technically manipulated phone number. Even the police number can appear on the display.
What should I do:
Be suspicious and don’t let yourself be pressured. Never respond to a request for money over the phone.
Even though you may have caught the scammers, it is important to report the incident to the police. Call the number 117 (it is essential to hang up the receiver, wait for the buzzer tone and dial again).
