In Germany, assessed the level of dependence on energy resources from Russia
The newspaper Die Welt assessed the level of Germany’s dependence on energy resources from Russia. How informs a study by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) in 2020 found Germany’s energy dependence to be 64%. And, according to experts, it is impossible to quickly find a replacement for energy resources if their proposal is connected.
Germany’s energy dependence represents net imported energy. In terms of BGR reserves, Russia’s share of German oil imports is 34%, Russian gas supplies are over 50%, and coal accounts for about 45%.
The publication implements the opinion of BGR energy expert Martin Pine, who argues that energy resources of this magnitude cannot be replaced in the short term.
“We are rapidly and completely replacing the market value that Russia holds for coal, gas and oil, which is very difficult, if not impossible,” Pine said.
Agreed with the BGR representative and another expert interviewed by the newspaper, scientific director of the German Institute for Economics Hubertus Bardt.
“The options for replacing gas with other energy sources are limited. In industry, there is practically no short-term replacement worth mentioning, as well as in domestic heating,” said Bardt.
