Currently, the intention of the new station opposite the Lužánky Park is being assessed by the employees of the Brno-Wednesday Building Authority in the zoning procedure. Firefighters are also completing project documentation.
The new building is to grow on the area of the current station opened in 1940. “It is in a state of disrepair, any repairs are not profitable. Its facilities and operating conditions do not correspond to the modern station for a long time. In addition, it is one of the busiest in the country, “said Jaroslav Mikoška, a spokesman for the South Moravian fire brigade.
The oldest fire station in Brno: 80 years. The building in Lidická Street is awaiting demolition
The planned building is to receive five above-ground and one underground floor. It will offer firefighters all the necessary facilities. Thirteen garage spaces for emergency vehicles are to be built. The assessed plan also proposes sixty-nine parking spaces for cars and twenty-one for motorcycles, most of them underground.
Firefighters currently do not have enough money for the new base. Therefore, they cannot even say when construction will actually begin.
