Angela Merkel loved Plötner’s wholemeal sandwich – BZ Berlin
It is one of the founding bakeries of our city, founded in 1919. 103 years later, bread and rolls from the Plötner family are still on everyone’s lips.
In addition to the classic sale in Plötners Café at Anton-Saefkow-Platz 11, the traditional company also believes in around 200 customers – including Charité and Vivantes hospitals, retirement homes, hotels and also the Federal Chancellery.
Ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) appreciated Plötner’s normal wholemeal bread. Your successor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will certainly also benefit when the corona-related delivery break ends.
“Another of our flagship products is the mixed bread with sourdough and a double-baked crust based on a 100-year tradition,” says Sascha Plötner-Rietz (47), son-in-law of master baker Frank Plötner (64). “But we also have the ‘East German Knüppel’ – a kind of milk roll, but not sweet.”
The team is busy around the clock: “40 employees work in our bakery on Josef-Orlopp-Strasse,” says Sascha Plötner-Rietz. “They start at 8 p.m., and the first deliveries of our 240 different baked goods start at 2 a.m..”
