the Saint-Louis chapel will not be destroyed in the end
The Saint-Louis de Dijon chapel will not give way to an apartment building. François Rebsamen, the mayor of the city, opposed the destruction of the building at the end of January.
The battle to save the Saint-Louis chapel is over. The building, which is located near the Colombière park in Dijon, will not ultimately be destroyed in favor of an apartment building.
François Rebsamen, the mayor of the city, a “opposed a refusal to the application for an operational town planning certificate filed with the services of the metropolis“. This decision was taken in accordance with the PLUI-hd (local inter-municipal urban plan – housing and travel), so that the “suburban character of the Rotondes district“.
The deputy mayor in charge of town planning, Pierre Pribetich, received the collective of the Saint Louis chapel on Wednesday January 26 to announce the news. “The mayor of Dijon was very concerned about this file. We see here the realization of the spirit of PLUI-hd which respects and values the neighborhoods of our beautiful regional capital.“, he clarified.
Following the publication of the Sauvé report, the bishops of France had decided to sell part of the property of the clergy. The money thus designated would go to the compensation fund for victims of pedocrime. The Saint-Louis chapel was therefore one of those buildings intended for sale.
To protest against the destruction of the place of worship, following the sale to the promoter, the collective of the Saint-Louis chapel was formed on December 18th. Hundreds of local residents gathered. A request had also been sent.
“There are enough of us to think of solutions. Our action can reinforce this idea that nothing is impossible“, specified Bernard Mény, president of the collective.
And it now seems that saving the Saint-Louis chapel was indeed not impossible. It remains to be seen what use will be made of the building. In December, the collective evoked for example the possibility of transforming it into a media library.
