ALL ANTWERP: “My best job was working for a funeral director” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Rita Jordens (67).

“The best job I ever did was with a funeral director. I was an all-round employee. Did the shop windows, arrange the flower arrangements, kiss the cars. I really liked that. I also washed the dead people and made them beautiful. I had a nursing degree in my pocket and with that I was allowed to do all that. That gave me a lot of satisfaction.”
“You might think it’s a sad environment there, but in fact we’ve had a lot of laughs. For example, I had a friend who with the corbillard drove and at a certain moment we really didn’t know where to get more room. We had made a wrong turn and it just didn’t start anymore.”
“Yes, I had very nice colleagues there. There is a real family atmosphere. But when I worked there for five years, the business went bankrupt. After that, I never worked for a funeral director again. But I will never forget my time there.”
“Now I am retired and I like to make time for my children. I have two. And three grandchildren. I really hope there will be a fourth. When we have time, we come together. Like with the holidays. That was very nice. I then cooked extensively for chicken. A Christmas recipe by Jeroen Meus that I found on the internet. It worked well. My daughter-in-law was pleased.”
