Prague 3 criticizes the planned closure of Jana Želivského Street
Jana Želivského Street should be closed from 1 to 25 February in the section between Olšanská Street and U nákladového nádraží, cars will only be able to drive there on tram tracks. Prague 3 has already criticized the municipality for the concurrence of closures last autumn.
The restriction in Jana Želivského Street is planned due to the repair of gas pipelines. At the same time, the passage of the intersection at the Želivského metro station will be limited by the end of March due to the excavation of sewers for Central Group housing projects. According to Prague 3, the municipality and the company Pražská plynárenská Distribuce should therefore postpone work on the gas pipelines, because the concurrence of both closures would, in addition to significant delays in tram and car traffic.
The management of Prague 3 was already criticized by the municipality last November in connection with complications caused by the concurrence of several closures. A total of seven traffic restrictions applied in one area, and convoys formed on the streets on a regular basis. City Hall therefore called on the city administration to better coordinate the closures. At the request of the city district, the municipality then postponed another part of the reconstruction of Koněvova Street until the work on Jana Želivského Street was completed.
According to the Deputy Mayor of Prague 3, Ondřej Rut (Greens), the coordination of work is still insufficient. “The Technical Administration of Roads only provided us with an inventory of its own construction projects at the request of the traffic restriction coordination plan of all engineering network owners. The city did not coordinate the actions of the owners of gas pipelines, water supply and sewerage and other networks. Prague 3 learns about the individual closures just before their launch, gradually and without uniform coordination, “said Rut.
