A Ukrainian woman opened a popcorn shop in the center of Prague. I wanted to fulfill a relationship with Prague, he says Company News Pražská Drbna
Last October, Inga Petryčka opened an interesting Pop Pause store in the center of Prague with a large selection of popcorn. This is one of the favorite, but rather unusual, delicacies in our country, which many people will enjoy even more relaxing time with TV, a festival or a children’s party. In Prague 1, those interested can see that popcorn is not just about salt, ham and cheese and that this goodness does not have to be consumed only during a visit to the cinema. The story of Petryčka herself is also interesting. She moved from her native Ukraine to the Czech Republic at the age of twenty and got to popcorn through IT.
Prague was a big dream for the whole family
“Prague has always been a real center for us, to which we looked up and to which we felt bound by our historical identity. It is therefore not surprising that we longed to fulfill this relationship with Prague and Czechoslovakia in real terms, ” claims Petryčka, who arrived in the Czech Republic with her family at the age of twenty. In Prague, however, she didn’t just want to enjoy and do any work. Her goal was to fully establish herself in the Czech Republic and to have a nice and relaxed life, which she wishes to achieve primarily through studies. Finally, she established herself in Prague in the field of IT, management and business.
“Apart from IT, I also did a lot of business. After the birth of my daughter in 1999, I felt the need to take care of our background, so I studied economics and management. I gained experience thanks to work in the field of foreign trade and top management. I also helped develop branches in different countries. Based on all this experience, I started my own business in 2017, ” said Petryčka, who opened a popcorn shop in October 2021.
She decided to trade in this salty and sweet delicacy because there was no similar project on the market and everyone likes small snacks. At the same time, she added that she really likes high-quality popcorn itself and she was sorry that there are relatively few shops with sweet products in Prague, including sweet-flavored popcorn. Petryčka did not start her business only because of the so-called hole in the market, but also because she herself likes this goodness, which can be prepared for both sweet and savory. Its most popular flavors include strawberry, Christmas special and mustard with honey.

Pop Pause was not just popular with children and teenagers. The original name was released
Pop Pause was originally called Pop House, a similar name was recorded in Lithuania, so in the end Pop Pause was created, ie such a small pause for popcorn. An interesting logo was created for the name, which is made special by a drawing of popcorn, the letter U is then stylized into a cup for this corn goodness. “At Pop Pause, we decided to pack popcorn with respect for nature. All our packaging, except for the gift, are made from organic ingredients. We prefer paper to plastic. We have paper boxes, paper filler and paper adhesive tapes. Our goal is to keep the quality of production as long as possible, so we always pay attention to packaging. We also offer customers original gift packaging. Our popcorn can be not only a good snack, but an interesting gift, ” claims the creator of the project.
“Older generations also come to us. It’s diverse. Popcorn is nothing new, so it’s not just an assortment for young people. However, I would say that parents with children come to us the most, but also young people, because there is a high school not far from the store. Older people shop here for their children and the like, ” revealed Petryčka, who is happy that she came up with something innovative. The biggest customers go to the store on Friday and Saturday. However, it very much depends on the situation with the covid, the sale and the weather. It’s nice now, more customers will logically walk around the store. “It’s an older product, but we tried to present it so that it’s not just popcorn that you can eat on TV. After all, everyone can eat it at any time and as they wish, “ she said that in the spring she would like to start adding new products such as ice cream and cotton candy.

Best-selling flavors and limited editions
“The best selling course is the classic ham cheese. Thanks, however, we recommend that they taste some other species and are not afraid to try something new, they often like the special flavors unexpectedly. ” she stated. These special flavors included, for example, Christmas popcorn, which customers were skeptical at first. In the end, however, the winter limited edition with gingerbread, cinnamon and ginger became a hit. Petryčka is now preparing special editions for Valentine’s Day and Easter. “We will definitely make a special for Valentine’s Day. This popcorn will not lack pink or red, but I still don’t know what else it combines with. The combination is definitely planned, ” revealed. Other popular flavors of customers are said to include caramel and parmesan.
Pop Pause may get to cinemas and festivals. There will also be crazy flavors
Although the Prague owner of Pop Paus is trying to ensure that popcorn is not just a minor affair at television or in the cinema, he would like to cooperate with cinemas in the future, where the assortment is not as varied as they would like. “I would like to see the cooperation. A lot of people come to us to buy popcorn in front of the cinema, because we have many species. However, I have not contacted anyone yet, we are here for a while and until then we have been constantly testing how the feedback from customers will be and we are still trying to improve our range. Petryčka revealed, saying that there are also some crazy flavors planned. For example, popcorn that would be sweet, sour, but also hot.
In Pop Pause, they have already passed a test of greaves popcorn, which at one time dragged customers, but then the demand decreased more and more, so this type is no longer in the current offer. “We use natural products, so we bought greaves and lard. We then wrapped bulging popcorn in it. That’s how we made salami popcorn, for example. ” she confided.
In the spring and summer, Pop Pause will primarily target festivals and other cultural events where well-crafted popcorn could go on sale. “Popcorn belongs anywhere and can be made for anyone. It is not even accepted from popcorn, so anyone can have it without remorse, “ she added. Various workshops will also be held at Pop Pause in the future. At the same time, the staff would very much like to make the children in the children’s homes happy and send them all kinds of popcorn flavors once in a while.

Shop in the center as a convenient solution
The Pop Pause store is located in the center of Prague. In addition to the exhibition counter, shelves with assortment and seating, there is also a children’s corner with a magnetic table on which children can draw or add various magnets. The store is primarily aimed at mothers with children, but also at students for whom the owner has created a stylish seating in the windows.
“I chose from a lot of places. I think this store is best for the center, even though we don’t target foreigners. Popcorn is a specific product, so it is not possible to trade it somewhere on the outskirts of Prague. The shop is furnished in an accessible place where a lot of people move. Trams, the metro and sometimes the bus run here, so a lot of potential customers pass by, ” Petryčka with the fact that the location is also advantageous for cooperation with import services with which Pop Pause cooperates. People can order this snack in their homes. “We also cooperate with ISIC, so all holders of this card have a special discount,” the owner added.
