Prague – The coidemic epidemic will peak next week, with up to 80,000 confirmed infections per day. The number of people infected will decline in schools, and the epidemic will begin to spread to the senior population. This was stated by the Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09) in the Czech Television talk show. He added that a vaccine from the Novavax company was to arrive in the Czech Republic at the turn of February and March, and registration for vaccination with this person could begin within 14 days.
The war assumes that the next time the number of new infections reaches about 50,000 a day. “If we are around 80,000 on Wednesday, I would be very satisfied,” he said. according to him, the epidemic should then slowly decline. Some experts have previously estimated that up to 200,000 new infections may be at the peak of the epidemic. According to the War, the epidemic in Prague is already starting to slow down.
“The virus is no longer spreading among our pupils. In Prague, a slow decline is beginning, we are beginning to move far more into the middle, older population,” Válek said. It is the transfer of the disease among the elderly that the Deputy Chairman of the House Health Committee and the Shadow Minister of Health Julius Špičák (YES) also consider to be a problem. According to him, compulsory vaccination for people over 60 would be the best solution. But the current government rejects this. According to former Minister of Health Svatopluk Němeček (ČSSD), it is largely unknown how unvaccinated people will react to the omicron.
Mandatory proposed by the previous government, should apply to some professions and seniors from March. However, the current cabinet rejected the decree this week. According to the War, the reason for the cancellation was that it was not well written and people who were not at risk were included. According to him, the decree requires two doses of covid vaccination, but today it is clear that a third, booster dose is also needed. The argument was that from February, vaccination certificates will be valid for only nine months for those who have only two doses.
According to Válek, there are now about 100,000 seniors in the Czech Republic who do not yet have a booster dose, and another 350,000 to 400,000 people over the age of 60 who are not vaccinated at all. The minister estimates that the new vaccine from Novavax will persuade hundreds of thousands of people to get vaccinated. Some people reject mRNA vaccines, which are currently mostly vaccinated in the Czech Republic. According to the State Institute of Drugs, the Novavax vaccine is a so-called protein vaccine, a different type than the four vaccines approved so far.
