Toulouse. Last day to donate blood at the Capitol
The “My blood for others” donation operation ends this Saturday, January 22 in the salons of the Capitole in Toulouse.
The blood donation operation “My blood for others” has been organized every year since 1988 in the salons of the Capitol by the town hall of Toulouse, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) and the Rotary Club for the organization of the “My blood for others” operation in the salons of the Capitol. Nearly 3,000 donors are expected throughout the operation, which began on January 19 and ends on Saturday January 22..
“This exceptional mobilization, in an exceptional place, aims to raise awareness among Toulouse residents and recruit as many donors as possible”, writes the town hall of Toulouse on its site. ” Goal ? Contribute to replenishing blood reserves, the level of which, already low at the start of the year, is very critical due to the health crisis.
“In a health context marked by low attendance at collections, mobilization for blood donation is crucial: patients always need transfusions”, also indicates the town hall of Toulouse. “In Occitania, nearly 1,000 blood donations are needed every day to meet the needs of people with cancer, chronic illnesses or even those suffering from haemorrhages: accidents, childbirth, surgeries…”

The blood draw itself takes ten minutes. But the whole donor journey takes 45 minutes. It takes place in several stages. First there is an interview with the team of the French Blood Establishment, then the sample, and finally a snack to regain strength.
Useful information : The health pass is not required to donate blood. It is possible to donate blood without delay, before or after an injection of the Covid-19 vaccine. People who have shown symptoms of Covid-19 must wait 14 days after symptoms disappear to be able to donate blood, or 14 days after testing positive. A period of at least eight weeks must be respected between two whole blood donations.
