Detention in Austria: pianist Siegfried Mauser has to go to Ösi prison Regional
Salzburg – Siegfried Mauser (67) has to go to Ösi prison!
The ex-president of the Munich Music Academy, convicted of sexual assault, has to start his prison sentence in Austria by the beginning of February. The 67-year-old musicologist and pianist Siegfried Mauser was given a report confirming his suitability for imprisonment, a spokesman for the Salzburg district court told the German Press Agency on Tuesday.
In addition, Mauser was asked to begin his detention by February 1st. The “Kronen Zeitung” had previously reported on these steps.
In October 2019, the Federal Court of Justice confirmed the judgment of the Munich I Regional Court, which had sentenced Mauser to two years and nine months in prison in three cases of sexual assault in May 2018. He had therefore pushed a singer in his office on the sofa and, despite resistance, had performed sexual acts on her.
The university manager from Straubing, who is also an Austrian citizen, applied to serve his sentence in Austria instead of Bavaria. According to the Salzburg court spokesman, however, the detention was delayed because the 67-year-old claimed health reasons.
In addition, necessary medical examinations were delayed due to the corona pandemic. According to the latest report, Mauser can no longer appeal against the incarceration, said the court spokesman.
Mauser led the Munich Music Academy from 2003 to 2014. He then directed the Mozarteum in Salzburg until 2016.
