Britain sends military equipment to Ukraine
According to UK Defense Journal has a transport aircraft of the type C-17 aircraft already in the country in Denmark with military equipment which is to be transported on to Ukraine.
This is due to a new escalation of the already difficult situation between Russia and NATO.
The British Secretary of Defense confirmed on Monday that the country’s government has decided to support Ukraine with military equipment.
– For self-defense
– These are not strategic weapons and do not pose a threat to Russia. It is for use in self-defense, says British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace in a statement to Parliament, writes Reuters.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov writes on social media that he thanks for the British support in a critical situation for the country.
“Ukraine greatly appreciates Britain’s decision to provide a security package with lightweight anti-tank weapon systems”, writes Reznikov in a tweet.
Short-range anti-tank missiles
The weapons that are sent are a type of anti-tank missile with short range, writes BBC.
In addition, a small group of British soldiers will be sent to Ukraine to provide training to the Ukrainian forces.
The UK has made an offer for Ukraine’s funding to strengthen the country’s naval capacity, which is a major strength following the 2014 invasion.
The case is being updated
Has warned Russia: – It is Putin’s choice
Several Western countries fear that Russia is preparing a pretext for a new attack on Ukraine, similar to the invasion and annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
Britain has previously warned Russia of serious consequences if it attacks Ukraine again.
– The current distance in the negotiations is large, but not insurmountable. We want diplomacy to win. It’s President Putin’s choice, says British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.
Increasingly threatening behavior from Russia
According to a statement given by the Secretary of Defense in the House of Commons on January 17, 2022, it states:
“As of today, tens of thousands of Russian troops are stationed near the Ukrainian border. The deployment is not routine and they are equipped with tanks, armored tanks, rocket artillery and short-range ballistic missiles “, writes UK Defense Journal.
It is against this background that the British have made the decision to supply Ukraine with light, anti-armor, defensive weapon systems.
– I can today confirm to the House of Commons that, in view of the increasingly threatening behavior from Russia, and in addition to our current support, Britain is providing a new security assistance package to increase Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
