In Rouen, hundreds of little Normans give voice to a participatory opera, “Rigoletto”
For some, it was a first at the Rouen Opera. About 500 children from several schools in Normandy were able to attend a performance last Friday of “Rigoletto or the Mysteries of the Theatre”, a show adapted from the work “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi. A version accessible to children from 6 years old.
The 1h15 show is in fact a participatory opera. The children had learn in class about ten passages of the work, to be able to sing with the artists. In the role of Gilda, Emy Gazeilles, it was the first time that the Soprano performed a participatory opera. She was very moved. “I was surprised. We can’t mentally prepare to the fact that 500 children are singing at the same time as you. It was a great pleasure to sing with them. Honestly I almost cried. It was too cute.”

They sing very loudly because the people who are at the top hear them anyway
It was so good, I loved it. It’s like a movie, but it’s not a movie
Several performances are still being broadcast this week. A total of 4,500 children will give voice to the Rouen opera. A performance for the general public will also take place on Sunday at 4 p.m. (price for the public 16 euros, 5 euros 50 this week for schoolchildren).
