A young migrant died on Friday January 14 following an attempt to cross the Channel with around thirty other exiles who were rescued off Berck (Pas-de-Calais). The victim of twenty years, would be of Sudanese nationality, announced the prosecution of Boulogne-sur-Mer. An investigation against X was opened for manslaughter.
According to the prosecution, 32 people who attempted the crossing on Friday with the young victim are “safe and sound”, but in a state of“hypothermia”. After a source close to the survey, the migrants are according to “a semi-rigid canoe”. They could have been trapped by the tide, some of them having been found on sandbars.
This is the first migrant death in La Manche since the start of the year. The results of the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea for 2021 show 30 dead and 4 missing. The twenty-seven migrants had lost their lives on November 24 when their boat sank off the coast of Calais, the worst tragedy to have occurred on this migratory route.
