Transport – Frankfurt am Main – 40 percent of households use the car every day – economy
Frankfurt / Main / Potsdam (dpa / bb) – Around four out of ten households in Brandenburg use the car every day. This was the result of a regionalized evaluation of the KfW energy transition barometer. Around 34 percent of the households surveyed use the car in Brandenburg every day. Mathematically, every household in Brandenburg owns a car – the state is thus slightly below the average of 1.1 cars.
According to this information, the car is a symbol of independence for around three quarters of the Brandenburg households surveyed. On the national German average, around 70 percent see it that way. “The results clearly show how important the car is for the mobility of most households,” said Fritzi Köhler-Geib, chief economist at KfW. If emissions in the transport sector are to be reduced, the electrification of cars, but also the switch to more climate-friendly means of transport such as local public transport, must be made easier.
Around 60 percent of the Brandenburg households surveyed who regularly use a car imagine switching to local public transport. Nationwide it is about three quarters. According to the survey, 44 percent of the amount in the country would use buses and trains more often if there were better connections. 36 percent would like to see lower costs. 52 percent would switch to the bicycle, nationwide it is fast 66 percent.
The KfW energy transition barometer is a regularly published representative survey of around 4,000 private households.
