Does Prague really want to ban the free movement of dogs? The draft of the new decree caused confusion
But according to the municipality, this is misinformation that is not based on truth. According to the current decree, the free movement of dogs is limited to selected places. The amendment is intended to simplify and unify the existing rules.
As far as the free movement of dogs is concerned, the situation is said to be fundamentally unchanged. The municipality even promises that somewhere there should be more places where free walking of dogs will be possible.
So why the change?
According to officials, the fact that the current one from 2001 is no longer completely up-to-date is responsible for the creation of a new decree on the protection of public greenery. One of her shortcomings came about last winter, when police officers drove sledding children from Petrin, because some areas here fall under the decree on the protection of greenery and others do not.
City spokesman Vít Hofman he said: “Free movement of dogs is already allowed only on areas marked with pictograms by the owner of public greenery. The new decree, on the other hand, modernizes the use of public greenery for Praguers according to the latest trends, it preserves the existing areas, and even adds newly created areas designed for the free movement of dogs. The decree does not affect the possibility of free movement of dogs on forest lands or in the open countryside outside the continuous development, “ he explained.
