Zurich Pride is back after outrage over motto
In 2021 the motto of the Pride was “Dare. Marriage for everyone, now! ” (Trust yourself. Marriage for everyone. Now!) Image: keystone
For Pride 2022, the organizers choose the motto “Trans Normal”. The community rages on. Now those responsible are crawling back.
On June 17 and 18, 2022, Zurich’s streets should be colorful again. Pride is about demonstrating for an open society and equal rights for LGBTIQ people – and with pride. Before that, however, the organizing committee has to clear a problem out of the way: This year’s motto “Trans Normal” did not go down well at all.

The crux of the criticism sums up the Page «csd_sufficient» – CSD stands for Christopher Street Day – all in one post together. In general, people are happy that the topic of trans is being addressed by Zurich Pride, they say. But:
«The slogan implies that trans people are just normal people and want to fit into society. We find the assimilation policy made here by Zurich Pride unacceptable (…) »

The last time Pride took place in 2019, it brought together around 55,000 people in the streets of Zurich. The demonstration parade, once known as “Christopher Street Day Zurich”, took place under the motto “Strong in Diversity”. Marriage was everyone’s theme last year.
“Breaking up norms”
The Zurich Pride association responded to the criticism on Sunday evening. Via Instagram he announced that the motto will be changed.
Benjamin Hermann helped to develop the motto. “The point shouldn’t be that transident people should be ‘normal’, but that the norm must be broken down and expanded,” says Hermann. Hermann’s working group consists of ten transgender and non-binary people.
You couldn’t count on criticism of this magnitude, says Hermann. “But we agreed that we want to take them seriously.” The new motto still has to be discussed, says Hermann, but the topic of transsexuality should remain. On Tuesday, the club wants to announce how things will continue.
Note for the comment column: Please discuss objectively. Transphobic comments will be deleted.
