After 34 hours at the wheel: the police ordered truck drivers on the federal motorway (BAB) 2 to take a compulsory break
Hanover (ots) –
The Hanover autobahn police pulled a completely overtired truck driver out of traffic. During a routine inspection of a semitrailer truck on the BAB 2 at Varrelheide, the emergency services found on Friday, January 7th, 2022 that he used several driver cards to circumvent the regulations on driving and rest times. In total, he was behind the wheel for around 34 hours.
Motorway police officers planned a semi-trailer truck on BAB 2 for a routine check on Friday evening at around 10:30 p.m. To do this, the patrol piloted the truck driving in the direction of Berlin to the Varrelheide car park. When checking the papers and the driver’s data, the police detect violations of the prescribed driving and rest times.
Also fielded the officer that. The driver card handed out by the 52-year-old driver, from the resulting driving and rest times, does not match his personal details. There is a suspicion that the driver exchanged two driver cards against each other several times in order to illegally circumvent the legal regulations. As the local police investigations showed, the 52-year-old had been behind the wheel for around 34 hours at the time of the inspection. Only once did he take a three-hour, and therefore much too short, break during this time.
Due to the assumed fatigue, the police ordered the man to die following an eleven-hour forced break. In addition, the officials initiated proceedings against the man for falsifying evidence-relevant data, demanding the payment of a security deposit of 1,000 euros and securing the misused driver card. /R.A.M
