Omikron can no longer be stopped – Natalie Rickli: Up to 40,000 cases per day in the canton of Zurich
Natalie Rickli: Up to 40,000 cases per day in the canton of Zurich
The health director expects a violent omicron wave. But then normality comes. Not everyone sees it that way.
“We are dealing with a monster wave that can no longer be stopped”: That says the Zurich health director Natalie Rickli (SVP) in an interview with the “NZZ am Sonntag”. By the end of January there could be 40,000 deaths per day in the canton of Zurich alone: ”Everyone will be affected: society, the economy, every individual.” For comparison: on Friday the canton reported 5547 new infections.
There is a risk, according to Rickli, that such high case numbers will paralyze society. Therefore, companies must take precautions in order to be able to continue to function, and the authorities must ensure that basic services continue to be guaranteed. Rickli also appealed to the population: Each and every individual must protect himself as well as possible, SO THAT not too many people are contained at once.
