Israel’s men’s handball team defeated on Saturday, in Cluj-Napoca, the representative of the Republic of Moldova, score 42-31 (22-13), in the second match of the preliminary group 3 of the 2023 World Championship, according to news.ro.
Israel has 2 points in the group standings, just like Romania, which defeated, on Friday, the Israeli team in the inaugural match, with 33-30.
The Tricolors will play the match against the Republic of Moldova on Sunday.
The tour schedule was changed after Cyprus failed to appear, with cases of Covid-19 in the batch. Thus, all the matches scheduled with Cyprus resulted in a flat rate, ie 0-10, and the team will finish on the last place in the 3rd tournament.

The first two placed in the preliminary group 3 qualify in the first play-off phase of CM2023. In total, eight teams will qualify in the first play-off phase, in which they will meet the last eight ranked at CE2022, in a double elimination round, with matches scheduled between March 14-20.
The winners will qualify in the second play-off phase, in which they will have 10 other teams from CE2022, the matches will take place between April 11-17. The qualification for the final tournament of CM2023 will be established by the winning teams in the double round of the second play-off phase.
Only the hosts of the competition, Poland and Sweden, respectively the holder of the title, Denmark, are directly qualified for the final tournament of the 2023 World Championship. The finalists of this year’s European Championship, scheduled for January, will also reach the final tournament.
Holder of four world titles (1961, 1964, 1970, 1974), the Romanian national team last participated in a World Championship in 2011, when it ranked 19th.
