In Toulouse, new measures to strengthen the control of paid parking
Since January 1, 2022, all municipalities having annual revenue of online payment greater than 5,000 euros must offer users a free dematerialized service. The objective is to dematerialize all municipal services, in particular that of parking.
In Toulouse, the subscription of dematerialized resident parking on the road allows residents to 44 neighborhoods concerned to find more easily places of parking near their home through an annual or bi-weekly subscription.
“70% unpaid parking”
Today, the town hall estimates that 70% of motorists continue not to pay for their parking, without being sanctioned. The pressure on the use of the car in the city center is thus increasing more and more. The pink city wishes for paid parking control. According to the town hall, the 33 public highway surveillance agents (ASVP) deployed in the city, cannot control in one day the 16,300 paid places of public roads.
For the effectiveness of controls, the town hall adopted, on October 22, 2021, during the City Council, an automated number plate reading system using on-board cameras installed on officers’ cars. According to the deputy mayor in charge of security, Emilion Esnault the implementation of this system is planned for the “first half of 2022”, relays the Dispatch from the Midi.
Emilion Esnault specifies that the treatment will be “semi-automatic”, in other words, there will always be a validation step by a municipal agent. This technique thus allows activate car control speed. Violators are warned.
