Le Figaro: Hungary and Poland are central to the French EU presidency
According to the diplomat who told the French newspaper, Hungarian politicians are cynical.
French Le Figaro on Wednesday released a compilation of key priorities for the French presidency of the EU, led by Emmanuel Macron. Hungary and Poland are also high on the list.
According to the paper, the French presidency has identified five important priorities: Ukraine, the common defense policy, the Schengen area, and Poland and Hungary. The article states that Hungary and Poland will be particularly “difficult to deal with”, not because Hungary and Poland would be so opposed to the priorities of the French presidency, but because their governments are in open conflict with Brussels. A good example of this is the recovery plan for the two countries, which has continued to be approved by the European Commission, or the rule of law mechanism, which could be a source of further conflict.
Referring to a diplomat, Le Figaro writes that the frustration is greatest on the Polish side. “Hungarians will not want to distance themselves from Poles, but they are more cynical and how and how to do business”Reads Wednesday’s article. According to the French newspaper, it is likely that Poles are looking for retaliation options because of the games in Brussels.
