Ursula Von der Leyen: EC-proposed 150 million euro financial package will help stabilize Moldova’s economy
The financial package of 150 million euros, proposed by the European Commission for Chisinau, will contribute to the stabilization of the economy of the Republic of Moldova and will put it on the path of recovery, the president of the European executive, Ursula von der Leyen, said in a message on Twitter.
“The European Commission is with the Moldovan people in these difficult times.
The European Commission proposed to the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday, at the request of Chisinau, a package of financial assistance worth 150 million euros to help the Moldovan authorities overcome the chronic economic crisis, reports the publication Deschide.md, quoted by Agerpres.
Thus, EUR 30 million would be provided in the form of grants and EUR 120 million in the form of medium-term loans on favorable terms of financing, according to the average across the Prut.
The financial assistance package, which must be adopted by the European Parliament and the Council before it can enter into force, would accompany the new IMF program for the Republic of Moldova, approved on December 20, 2021.
These financial injections are intended to help the Republic of Moldova cover some of its external financing needs in the next two years. The operation would therefore contribute to reducing the vulnerabilities of the economy related to the short-term balance of payments and the budgetary situation, comments Deschide.md.
