Slovenian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mateja Vodeb Ghosh reduced concerns about China and emphasized the importance of India’s role at the global level.
In an interview with Daily Mirror , Ghosh said attitudes toward China have changed recently.
She said that from the point of view of the European Union, they see China as a strategic competitor in certain areas and as an indispensable partner in some other issues, such as climate change.
Slovenia has just completed its role as President of the European Union.
“I think we all know that without China, even without India, the climate change goals we want will not be achievable. But yeah, overall I think the approach has changed a bit. But for now, I would not say that we see it as a threat, but as a strategic competitor in certain areas and as an indispensable partner in climate change and some other issues, “she said.
She also said that India is an important player in the region and around the world.
Mateja Vodeb Ghosh, meanwhile, also said Sri Lanka has shown interest in artificial intelligence.
“That was my impression in recent conversations. This issue was actually raised by the Sri Lankan side. In this regard, the International Research Center for Artificial Intelligence operates in Slovenia. And the main task of this center is to achieve the goals of sustainable development with the help and assistance of artificial intelligence. So I think we could find quite a few opportunities to work together in this area, ”she said.
Last month, Mateja Vodeb Ghosh took over the position of Slovenian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, based in New Delhi. (Colombo Gazette)
