Cologne – The external review of the award of contracts in the Archdiocese of Cologne should only take place after the return of Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki (65) begin.
The Holy See in Rome informed Woelki’s current representative in Cologne, Auxiliary Bishop Rudolf Steinhäuser (69), in a letter with the diocese on Tuesday.
“There it is said that the Congregation for the Bishops agrees to the start of such an investigation, but this should only be carried out when the archbishop has resumed his official duties on March 2, 2022.”
External auditors are supposed to clarify in the project whether there have been negligence in canonical law when awarding contracts in Cologne in the last ten years.

At the beginning of December it became known that Woelki had spent around 2.8 million euros on dealing with sexual abuse.
Of these, 820,000 were for PR consulting alone.
Woelki, who is extremely controversial in his own archdiocese, is currently on a break.
