The party created by Basescu, PMP, is expanding in the Republic of Moldova
The party created by Băsescu, PMP, is expanding in the Republic of Moldova, under the leadership of its current president, Cristian Diaconescu.
The President of the Popular Movement Party, Cristian Diaconescu, had a meeting on Monday, January 3, 2022, with Anatol Salaru, President of the National Unity Party of the Republic of Moldova. The meeting also discussed “the prospect of establishing the People’s Movement Party in the Republic of Moldova,” the PMP said in a statement.
According to this source, the Popular Movement Party and the National Unity Party declare themselves formations “syndicalist”. They want to “represent the only Christian-Democratic alternative for the conservative electorate in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.”
In Romania, last year, PMP tried to collaborate with PNL but rejected the idea of merging with PNL. PMP continues to collaborate with PNL and USR at the level of the Local Councils in which it has councilors.
Cristian Diaconescu is the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. He took over the leadership of the People’s Movement Party after the party no longer entered Parliament. Before Diaconescu, the party’s president was MEP Eugen Tomac.
PMP is founded by Traian Basescu, a supporter of the rapprochement with the Republic of Moldova
Traian Băsescu, the party’s founder, is no longer officially involved in the actions of these forms. However, Băsescu is known as a supporter of Romania’s proximity to the Republic of Moldova.
