The police, fire brigade and ambulance did not have a quiet New Year’s Eve in Salzburg despite the early curfew and large-scale ban on fireworks: THEY were on duty because of several scuffles, property damage, fires and accidents. In Ebenau (Flachgau) two men were injured, some seriously, by a firecracker.
The firecrackers case happened shortly after midnight. According to the police, two 35-year-olds were handling a pyrotechnic object when it exploded. One of the men was seriously injured in the hand. The second was injured in the face and hands. The rescue had to bring both of them to the accident hospital in Salzburg.
Almost 20 firefighters were on duty in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Pinzgau) because of a fire in a holiday resort. Passers-by noticed fire on a balcony. According to the fire department, a firework is likely to have triggered the fire. But the flames could be extinguished quickly. Nobody got hurt.
