Korona, Bergen | 93 new infected Saturday: – We must take on the challenges when they come
Recently, we have seen a decrease in infection, but assistant chief infection control doctor, Kjell Haug, now believes that the numbers will increase again.
On Saturday, 93 new cases of infection were reported in Bergen.
Infection rates are distributed as follows in the age groups: 4 (0-5), 12 (6-12), 6 (13-19), 24 (20-29), 20 (30-39), 13 (40-49), 7 (50-59), 4 (70-79), 4 (over 80).
In the last seven days, an average of 137 corona cases have been recorded per day. The corresponding figure seven days ago was 191.
Compares us with Denmark
– Today the numbers will be a little lower, as we saw on Christmas Day. But we will probably get back to the level we were at a while ago, Kjell Haug tells BA on Saturday morning.
He states that it will be exciting to see how omikron spreads next time.
– We take it for granted that omikron will shape the infection picture in the future. Right now we have no other information than the one we get from abroad. We then look especially at the infection picture from Denmark, it is natural for us that we compare ourselves with them.
Recently, Denmark has had a sharp increase in infection, and Haug does not rule out that Norway will follow that trend.
– But Norway is different from the countries down on the continent. We have a much more dispersed settlement, so that the infection can occur in a completely different way.
He adds that large cities, such as Bergen, on the other hand, may have a similar infection pattern as the countries down on the continent.
– It will be exciting to see what happens. Large sections of the population are well protected by vaccines, and many have already undergone coronary heart disease.

New Year’s Eve can have an impact on the infection situation
– Large parties and gatherings where alcohol is consumed can often lead to people not thinking as much about infection control. Have you been worried about this?
– It is quite clear that this is a correct description, and this will probably have some effect on the infection situation and be a contributing explanation if we get an increase in infection, says Haug.
But the assistant chief of infection control remains optimistic.
May 17 in Bergen was also a feast day, but we did not see much on that day. We expected the infection to increase much more in the days after the national day, but that is of course unpredictable.
Haug also emphasizes the latest virus and that this may have a greater effect.
– Omikron is more contagious, so it can give a different effect of such joints.

Takes on the challenges when they come
The time we have in store is uncertain, and Haug can not give any concrete answers as to what the future will bring.
– We just have to be positive. We have no choice but to take on the challenges when they come.
But he is more sure that there will be a good deal more infection.
– I do not know how sick people become, but it is certain that if the infection increases, then some people will also become seriously ill.
