BEAUNE: The wishes of Alain Suguenot
“The time has come to draw the way in which we are going to have to live with this virus and to abandon a solely short-term health apprehension”, declares the mayor of Beaune in his wishes for 2022.
Communiqué from the City of Beaune of December 29, 2021:
Dear friends,
Tire 2021 his bow with as many expectations as hopes. The omnipresence of the health crisis is mixed with the feeling that the year which is ending has not kept its promises.
Still, there are reasons to be hopeful in 2022.
Each day is unique, each year is a promise of prospects and discoveries for those who dare to believe in it and give themselves the means.
“The French are restless and light in happiness, constant and invincible in adversity. “
“In great crises, the heart breaks or gets tanned”. The fight against the COVID-19 epidemic has been a constant concern for us. Even before a vaccine was found, our city realized the need to establish itself as the second vaccine structure in Côte d’Or.
The famous “whatever the cost” of the top of the State is in this very remote from the reality of our territory. We have never waited to embark on the response to the greatest health challenge of our century, but without forgetting the virtues of good management.
We have never stopped mobilizing.
And more than ever, we have never failed to work in favor of life and the right to relive at last.
The most serious consequence of this virus would have been to no longer enjoy the things that are most important to us.
Over the past twelve months, we have made the choice that the pandemic cannot substitute for the optimism we need.
2021 will have been a year rich in attentions and projects to support all those whom COVID-19 has not spared.
Beaune was thus one of the first cities to relaunch its activities at the four corners of its streets in order to support the businesses and the artistic fabric which were severely impacted.
But the time has come to draw the picture of how we are going to have to live with this virus and to abandon a purely short-term health apprehension.
The months that have just passed have shown that this reasoning knows no limits, no safeguards.
Its only technical aspect, leads to all as soon as there are no more patients. This is how it may seem normal to propose confinement, as a way of life or the closure of schools, or to separate families by asking that “grandpa and grandma eat in the kitchen”.
These measures which would have been considered intolerable some time ago are now announced as practically all desirable.
Prohibition is thus instituted in principle and freedom becomes the exception.
This authoritarian risk is indeed totally topical.
A human who no longer dies is a utopia. It is time to live and accept a risk, on condition of course that certain precautions are practiced, if we want to avoid that freedom is reserved only for those who present good blood tests.
This is the price of restarting the economy.
Our city is well in a position to be a player in this revival, as it has proven for a few months, if it gives the means to project itself.
It is fortunate to have a solid economy whose dynamism will once again be a priority.
Private and institutional players have adapted and continue to support and promote projects that are attractive to our community. The loyalty of our partners shows us that it is still possible to transform obstacles into opportunities by going through projects that meet the expectations of Beaune residents.
Of course, we don’t have the power to know what tomorrow will bring.
But we know deep down that we will eventually overcome these trials thanks to the tremendous capacity of human beings to adapt and evolve, whatever their environment.
As far as she is concerned, Beaune will never stop preparing for better days which will definitely end up happening.
“Hope shines like a straw,” wrote Verlaine.
Dear friends, the future is shaping up with you. It is built thanks to this formidable mosaic of men and women of conviction, who know that the real fight is waged above all in our heads and in our hearts.
I am specifically thinking of all these volunteers, all these caregivers who fight the pandemic on a daily basis.
I wish them and I wish you all a happy new year 2022.
