Zumikon: Two phone fraudsters hold | Canton Zurich
An 87-year-old man reported to the operations center of the canton police in Zurich and stated that he had been contacted by telephone by an employee of the security service of a bank. This explained to him that there were incorrect bookings. He was instructed by the alleged bank employee to withdraw several thousand francs and finally to hand the money over to a person collecting it. In order to gain the pensioner’s trust, he was also supposedly passed on to the Zurich canton police. The called party went to his bank. Since he finally mistrusted the matter, he decided to call the Zurich canton police on the emergency number 117 and report the incident.
As agreed, a short time later a man rang the doorbell of the pensioner and took an envelope with the supposed loot. When he returned to his vehicle, he and another person who was waiting in the car were arrested by police officers from the Zurich cantonal police.
The arrested are two North Macedonians aged 20 and 51 who live in the canton of St. Gallen. They are brought to the See / Oberland public prosecutor’s office. Further investigations by the Zurich canton police, in cooperation with the responsible public prosecutor, will show whether the duo is still suitable for further acts.
