The significant rainfall affecting the Lyon region poses a risk of flooding in the Rhône department, which was therefore placed on yellow vigilance this Wednesday, December 29 by Météo France.
Faced with heavy rains since Tuesday, December 28, the Rhône department is now placed on yellow-flood vigilance. The alert set up by Meteo France should remain effective until mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
In addition, the bad weather affecting the Alps triggered an increase in rivers, especially in the Rhône, where vigilance was less triggered until Thursday 6 am. “After rising levels during the day on Wednesday, flows are clearly moving upwards during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The levels of the first overflows and localized damage must be reached at the end of the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and morning of Wednesday“, specifies Météo France in its vigilance bulletin. In Lyon and in the rest of the department, it will be necessary to show the greatest vigilance around the Rhône.
High avalanche risk in the Alps
In the rest of the region, a large part of the departments are concerned by weather vigilance, in particular Ain and Isère which are on orange rain-flood vigilance, like Savoie and Haute-Savoie, who are also facing a high avalanche risk, an orange alert is underway. Tuesday, December 28, the prefect of Savoy called in particular “motorists accessing ski resorts to be particularly vigilant, as well as those who practice mountain activities.”
