10,000 solar panels through collective purchasing campaigns
1,081 homeowners have placed solar panels on their roofs inexpensively and easily with our collective solar panel purchase campaigns. This involves a total of 10,000 panels. These homeowners spend on average between €300 and €600 per year on their energy bill and generate their own sustainable energy. The promotions run from early 2020 to September 2021
Together with parties such as Regionaal Energieloket, Profit from your home and neighborhood networks, the municipality carries out these purchasing campaigns per district. With approximately 10,000 extra panels on Amsterdam’s roofs, the city will generate an additional 3.5 megawatts of clean energy.

Thanks to the purchasing campaign, they benefit from additional benefits, such as an affordable price and good quality panels, installation and service. Many participants also made use of the energy loan from the municipality to install solar panels. This loan is not available for energy-saving measures in homes.
Yola Geradts participated in the purchase campaign for solar panels in South. As a result, there are now 12 panels on her roof. Earlier she was told that her house is not suitable because of the shade of a tree. But with 4 panels on both sides of her roof and 4 on her extension, it turned out to be possible.
Step-by-step plan for solar energy
Whether you are a tenant with a private individual from a housing association, or have your own home or apartment, everyone can get started with solar energy. go to Sun Without Worries and receive personal advice in a few steps. Even if you do not have your own (suitable) roof for installing solar panels, you can still get started with solar energy. There are several solar and energy cooperatives in Amsterdam that give residents the opportunity to spend in solar energy.
New promotions
Next year, a trial will start in the Noord district especially for homeowners in protected areas. If the results are good, this trial will continue in the rest of the city. There will also be purchasing campaigns next year for, among other things, insulation measures for homeowners, so that their homes remain comfortably warm and the energy bill is low.
In addition, a project will start in 2022 in the postal code area 1012 (Centre) where there are many monumental buildings. We offer extra support here when applying for permits. People often think that it is not possible to install solar panels on roofs with monument or heritage status. That is why there is an approach for owners of monumental buildings. If successful, the project will be expanded further.
Panels everywhere
The aim is to install panels on all roofs in Amsterdam. We want as many residents as possible to benefit from sustainable solar energy, whether they have their own roof or not. Electricity can be generated on all roofs for 400,000 to 500,000 households. In addition to roofs, Amsterdam also installs solar panels at P+R locations and along existing infrastructure (such as on embankments, noise barriers and metro stations).
