Prague – On Tuesday, 9089 confirmed cases of covid-19 occurred in the Czech Republic, which was almost a quarter less than a week ago. hospitalized after the Sunday and Monday increase fell again. Compared to the previous Tuesday, it decreased by about 30 percent to 3460 people, of whom 673 were in serious condition. It follows from the data on web Ministry of Health. The so-called incidence number also decreased, ie the number of new cases of infection in the last week for every 100,000 inhabitants. To date, it has dropped from 363 to 338 cases on Tuesday.
The spread of Covid-19 in the Czech Republic has been slowing down since about the end of November. At that time, the daily numbers of new infections reached almost 28,000, which was the highest increase during the epidemic. Recently, the number of deaths of people with covid-19 has also decreased. According to the ministry, 418 people have died in the past seven days, a third less than in the previous week. During the entire epidemic in the Czech Republic since the beginning of last March, about 2.46 million cases of the disease were recorded and 35,975 people with covid-19 died.
In recent days, however, in addition to the number of new infections, the number tested for coronavirus has dropped significantly. About 53,500 PCR tests and over 15,000 antigens were performed on Tuesday, which was a third less than the same day last week.
This increases the share of positive testers in the number of tests performed. For the most preventive and comprehensive tests, the share of positive increases from 5.08 percent for the previous Tuesday to 7.01 percent. The epidemiological indication, in which people are tested for contact with the infected, for example, rose from 13.51 percent to 15.25 percent. The proportion of positives in the so-called diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms are already being tested, increased from 28.06 to 29.19 percent.
For about three weeks now, the number of people who ended up in hospital with the covid-19 has been gradually declining. According to Ladislav Dušek, director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, the number of hospitalized people will continue to fall in today’s issue of the daily Právo. However, the reduction will proceed only slowly, especially for patients in intensive care units. “Then, when the (coronavirus) variant of omicron inevitably comes into question, there is a big question mark of what it will do in hospitals,” he added.
According to Dušek, Omikron can now cost up to a tenth of all infections. “Sometime around January 5-10, it could exceed 25 percent, and then it will start growing very sharply,” he told Práva. According to him, Omikron will push out the hitherto dominant variant of the delta at the turn of January and February. According to experts, omicron is more contagious and easier to overcome vaccination, but it probably has milder consequences. “This sounds good, of course, but unfortunately at that high rate of spread, it has the potential to infect a large mass of people in a short time. .
Since the end of last December, covid-19 has been vaccinated in the Czech Republic. Approximately 15.3 million doses of vaccine have been administered since then. Over 6.6 million people were fully vaccinated. About 69,000 people were vaccinated on Tuesday, about a fifth less than a week ago. Most of those vaccinated on Tuesday were already fully vaccinated, who came for a booster dose of the vaccine. Altogether, almost 2.3 million people have received a booster dose, more than a third of those fully vaccinated.
The incident number fell on Tuesday in all regions. The highest is now in Prague with 396 cases of covid-19 in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. It is still the lowest in the Karlovy Vary region with 195 cases of infection.
After Monday’s and Tuesday’s growth, it fell today, according to the press news The ministry also has a reproduction number that shows the rate of spread of the epidemic. It indicates how many other people on average represent one who has tested positive. It fell from 0.69 on Tuesday to 0.67 today. Since the beginning of December, fluctuations have been kept below the key value of one, which means a slowdown in the spread of the disease.
At today’s meeting, the government will discuss changes to anti-epidemic measures. Even before the Christmas holidays, the Ministry of Health Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09) announced that data from the United Kingdom and Denmark regarding the effects of the infection with the coronavirus variant omicron on the hospital should be available before the end of the year. According to them, he wants to present alternative options for measures. For example, according to CNN Prima News, it will be mandatory testing of employees who do not have a booster dose.
