“The pressure has greatly decreased in our hospitals despite high positivity” (Bastogne)
As elsewhere, the number of Covid patients is falling in hospitals in the province of Luxembourg.
Good news, hospitals in the province of Luxembourg are seeing the number of their Covid patients decrease! “The pressure has greatly diminished, both in intensive care and in conventional hospitalizations, it is calmer”, announces Yves Bernard, CEO of Vivalia.
A constant decrease
In intensive care, on Tuesday there were 3 patients in Arlon, 1 in Marche and 1 in Bastogne. In conventional hospitalizations, the number is 2 in Bastogne, 2 in Marche and 11 in Arlon (figures for Libramont were not available). The vast majority of these patients are not vaccinated.
With a total of around thirty patients hospitalized due to Covid in our province, we are far from the 86 counted (including 20 in intensive care) on December 9. Last week there are 54 left. Evidence of a steady decrease in recent times.
High positive, but without impact in hospitals
While these numbers are falling, this is not the case for the positivity rate. “In terms of tests in our laboratories, on the other hand, we see a high rate, with 15 to 20% of positive results, indicates Yves Bernard. This Tuesday, our laboratories again experienced an upsurge in positive tests. But there is no impact, at this stage, on hospitalizations. This would be linked to the new variant. A priori, Omicron develops fewer serious forms in affected people. This therefore results in fewer hospitalizations than for the previous variants. “
Dr Pascal Pierre, director of medical affairs at Vivalia, also points out, in the columns of Sud Presse, the effectiveness of the 3rd dose as an element of explanation for this drop.
What to expect in the coming days and weeks? “It is difficult to predict, we just hope that what we read at the level of studies, indicate that this variant is less aggressive, continue to be confirmed, responds the CEO of Vivalia. With us, Omicron has only recently gained the upper hand, we will have to see the effects over time. “
